About the role

Quill Dynamics is a Gaming company founded in 1985 and based in Toronto, Canada. As a large organisation of 501 to 1,000 employees, we combine the pace, ambition and ownership of a modern business with a genuine commitment to quality, integrity and the people who work here. Quill Dynamics is a Toronto-based gaming firm established in 1985 with a clear mission to redefine its market. Its solutions are trusted in dozens of markets and are localised to meet the needs of regional users. You can learn more about us at https://www.quilldynamics.org.

We are looking for a Principal UI/UX Designer to join our team, working on-site from our Toronto office. In this role you will be a key member of our Design function, contributing directly to our goals and working closely with talented colleagues across the business.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership and impact. You will apply your skills in Figma, User Research and Wireframing to solve interesting problems, ship work you can be proud of and help us raise the bar for what we do. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, share your ideas openly and have the support you need to do your best work and grow along the way.

You will bring around 11 to 15 years of relevant experience and strong, practical knowledge of Figma, User Research and Wireframing. Just as important are clear communication, sound judgement, attention to detail and the ability to collaborate effectively with people across different teams and backgrounds. Experience leading projects, mentoring others and influencing decisions will set you up for success in this role.

Within your first few months, you will get up to speed with our products, processes and people, build strong working relationships across the team, and begin taking ownership of your own work. Over time, you will have the opportunity to deepen your expertise, take on broader scope and grow your career with us as the company continues to scale.

In return, we offer a supportive, inclusive and collaborative environment, competitive pay, meaningful benefits and the chance to do work that genuinely matters. We care about our people, invest in their growth and want everyone here to be able to do the best work of their careers.

If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you. Quill Dynamics is an equal-opportunity employer: we welcome applicants of all backgrounds and are committed to building a diverse team and an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. Apply today and tell us why you would be a great fit.

Responsibilities

As a Principal UI/UX Designer at Quill Dynamics, you will play a central role within our Design function and take ownership of a broad and varied set of responsibilities. Working alongside a collaborative, motivated team, your day-to-day duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead by example, setting a high bar for quality, collaboration and professionalism.
- Build alignment across stakeholders and resolve competing priorities constructively.
- Make and clearly communicate well-reasoned decisions, including difficult trade-offs.
- Lead the design of intuitive, accessible and visually compelling experiences from initial concept through to final delivery.
- Stay current with design trends, tools and accessibility standards, and share learnings with the team.
- Run usability testing and iterate on designs based on qualitative and quantitative insights.
- Present and defend your design rationale to stakeholders, and incorporate feedback constructively.
- Contribute to and evolve the design system, maintaining consistency across products and platforms.
- Maintain a high bar for craft, attention to detail and brand consistency in everything you ship.
- Advocate for the user and for good design practice throughout the product development process.
- Prepare clean, well-organised handoff files and specifications for engineering.
- Create wireframes, user flows, prototypes and high-fidelity designs that clearly communicate your ideas.
- Collaborate closely with product and engineering to ensure designs are feasible and faithfully implemented.
- Conduct and synthesise user research to ground design decisions in real customer needs and behaviours.
- Balance user needs, business goals and technical constraints to arrive at pragmatic, elegant solutions.
- Support and step in for teammates when needed to help the team meet its shared goals.
- Plan and manage your workload to balance quality, speed and competing demands.
- Bring energy, curiosity and a solutions-focused mindset to everyday challenges.
- Take full ownership of your work, manage your own priorities and consistently deliver to a high standard and on time.
- Maintain accurate, thorough documentation and keep all relevant systems, tools and trackers up to date.
- Collaborate respectfully and effectively with colleagues across teams, functions, time zones and locations.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and bring forward practical ideas to make our products, processes and ways of working better.
- Adapt to changing priorities and remain calm, focused and effective in a fast-moving, evolving environment.
- Represent the team and the company professionally in internal and external interactions.
- Communicate progress, risks and blockers clearly and proactively to your manager and relevant stakeholders.
- Participate constructively in team meetings, stand-ups, planning sessions, demos and retrospectives.
- Contribute to a culture of accountability, learning from mistakes and celebrating shared wins.
