Responsibilities
• Design, build, and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs used across web and mobile clients• Model, normalise, and optimise relational and NoSQL databases
• Write clean, testable, well-structured server-side code with proper error handling
• Implement authentication, authorisation, rate limiting, and data-security measures
• Profile and tune slow queries, endpoints, and background jobs
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party services and payment gateways
• Set up caching, queues, and background workers where needed
• Write unit and integration tests and support CI/CD pipelines
• Monitor production services, investigate incidents, and fix root causes
• Collaborate with front-end engineers on API contracts and documentation
What we're looking for
• 2-5 years of backend development experience• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Node.js, Python, Java, or PHP)
• Strong understanding of databases (MySQL / PostgreSQL / MongoDB) and query optimisation
• Solid grasp of REST/GraphQL API design and authentication patterns
• Experience with Git and CI/CD basics
• Good to have: Docker, message queues (Redis/RabbitMQ/Kafka), and cloud deployment
• Good to have: exposure to microservices and system design
